Alena Walentin (flute): The Musicians’ Company #MiddayMusic

Alena Walentin joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after winning our Maisie Lewis Young Artists' Fund award in 2015. Here she performs Caprice en forme de valse by Paul Bonneau and 'Image' by Eugene Bozza. Alena says: Caprice en forme de valse by French composer Paul Bonneau. The piece was originally written for a saxophone and is considered one of the technically most challenging pieces for saxophone solo of the last century. I love the piece because it has a very sunny character and so much flair, and it always makes me smile! My other piece, 'Image' by French composer Eugene Bozza, is one of my favourite pieces from the flute solo repertoire. I love it because it feels like an improvisation: it is like a beautiful flight of fancy. Both pieces were recorded in just once and one take, as I wanted the video to be as close to a live open air concert as possible. I hope you enjoy my performance! I have careers as a soloist, professor and chamber musician. I am a Professor at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague in Netherlands (#KonconservatoriumDH), and also teach at four leading institutions in the UK, including the #GuildhallSchool and the #RoyalAcademyofMusic’s Junior department. I am proud to hold the honourable title of “Associate of the #RoyalAcademyofMusic” and Vice-Chair of #TheBritishFluteSociety. My debut CD was titled CD of the Week by National Danish Radio. I am a member of the Atéa Wind Quintet and one of the Artistic Directors of a music festival in Denmark called Møn Sommerkoncert." -------------------------------------------------- Musicians' Company Profile - Musicians' Company Interview (2016) - About our Maisie Lewis Young Artists' Fund - Alena's Website - Alena's Instagram - Alena's Twitter - Alena's Facebook - Alena's YouTube - -------------------------------------------------- Join our weekly #MiddayMusic e-news at #MiddayMusic is supported by funds from the Musicians' Company’s Prince’s Prize which received a generous endowment in 2015 from The Eranda Rothschild Foundation and Rothschilds Bank, in memory of Leopold de Rothschild, a Liveryman of the Musicians’ Company for over 50 years.
