Alexandra Lowe (soprano): The Musicians’ Company #MiddayMusic

Alexandra Lowe joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after she was awarded our Silver Medal at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2015. Here she performs ‘Felicissima quest’alma’ and ‘Quando m’en vo’ with Michael Papadopoulos. Alexandra says: "I chose to record these two pieces because they were probably my two highlights from recent performances. Joining the Jette Parker Young Artist’s Programme in September 2020 was a complete miracle. Because of all the cancellations to the planned mainstage repertoire, the ROH relied more than ever on its resident Young Artists. I made my mainstage debut as Dafne in a one-off live stream, amazingly with around 900 audience members watching. The first music I sing in the piece is ‘Felicissima quest’alma’ and it will be a moment I’ll never forget. It was so lovely to sing it again today without the pressure of it being streamed from the ROH stage! And then of course ‘Quando m’en vo’ is just one of my absolute favourite arias to sing! I was able to perform the entirety of Musetta’s Act 2 music on the mainstage as part of the Opera House’s Christmas Concert. Singing this music with orchestra is one of the most incredible feelings - I truly loved every second! This too was a one-off performance and I wish we could have done it another ten times! Although we lost so many opportunities in 2020, I have been extremely lucky to be able to carry on working and learning at the highest level. Here’s to 2021, and hopefully a much busier season for all! I am a Spanish-born British soprano and currently a member of the Royal Opera’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in the 20/21 season. As Second Prize winner at the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup, my final round performance was widely praised when it was broadcast globally by Sky Arts, and I have subsequently been featured in BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Rising Stars’ focus. I started my studies at the RNCM, before joining the Opera Course at GSMD and subsequently London’s National Opera Studio. Professionally, I have appeared as Dafne in Apollo e Dafne at ROH, Barbarina Le nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni and Barena Jenůfa, drawing universal acclaim from the British press." -------------------------------------------------- Musicians' Company Profile - http://wcom.org.uk/yeoman/alexandra-lowe About The Musicians' Company Silver Medals - http://www.wcomarchive.org.uk/--silver-medals Alexandra's agent - http://www.harrisonparrott.com/artists/alexandra-lowe -------------------------------------------------- Join our weekly #MiddayMusic e-news at http://eepurl.com/dv0ccr #MiddayMusic is supported by generous donations from the public, along with funds from the Musicians' Company’s Prince’s Prize which received a generous endowment in 2015 from The Eranda Rothschild Foundation and Rothschilds Bank, in memory of Leopold de Rothschild, a Liveryman of the Musicians’ Company for over 50 years.
