Helena Švigelj joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after winning our Silver Medal at #TrinityLaban in 2017. Here she performs the Prelude, Sarabande and Bourrées from Bach's Cello Suite no. 3. Helena says: "#JohannSebastianBach composed his six Cello suites while working as a Kapellmeister in Köthen, Germany, during the years of 1717-1723. His 3rd Suite for Cello solo has always been one my favourite suites to perform. During this Covid-19 pandemic, I have found a lot of time to reflect on what I have done in the past, and winning a 1st prize at the Vera Kantrovich Bach competition with this suite is a very fond memory of mine.Prelude is full of positive and energetic musical statements, a perfect joyful movement, while Sarabande offers a moment to reflect and find inner peace. To finish the recording, I chose two Bourree dances, one in major and the other one in minor, which are full of life, playfulness and enthusiasm. Enjoy! I am a Slovenian cellist, based in London. I have recently graduated from #TrinityLaban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with distinction, in the class of David Cohen. As recipient of many prizes, I had the opportunity to perform with various musicians and orchestras. My most notable performances as a soloist were in #CadoganHall with Jessica Cottis, and in Ljubljana, with Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
