Julian Bream Award

This is a new award created in 2023 by the Musicians’ Company in memory of Julian Bream. This award honours the lifetime achievement of an internationally pre-eminent instrumentalist who has contributed original and innovative work to the culture of their chosen instrument.

The Medallist should be notable for having achieved significance in several of the following categories:

• classical performance;
• improvised performance;
• significant repertoire expansion in new works and arrangements;
• the creation of new audiences through inventive programming and collaboration;
• innovation in instrument design;
• teaching, pedagogical and editorial practice;
• charitable engagements.

The award is open to instrumentalists of all nationalities

The award will be held every three years
