Bach Cantata Concert and Livery Club Lunch

BACH CANTATA CONCERT & LIVERY CLUB LUNCH: THURSDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2025 at 1.05 pm, St Giles Cripplegate
The Musicians’ Company Consort directed from the violin by Adrian Butterfield
The Musicians’ Company’s traditional opener for the City Music Society series is presented by a consort of leading exponents of Baroque instrumental performance and outstanding vocal soloists from the Royal College of Music, under the direction of Adrian Butterfield.

Bach composed Herr, gehe nicht ins Gericht mit deinem Knecht BWV 105 in July 1723 for the ninth Sunday after Trinity. It was one of the first he wrote in Leipzig and is based on one of Martin Luther’s penitential psalms, speaking of mankind’s need to forswear earthly pleasures to survive before God’s judgement. Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan, BWV 99 followed a year later for the 15th Sunday after Trinity on 17th September 1724 so is very appropriate for this concert.
The concert will take place in the Church of St Giles Cripplegate, Fore Street, Barbican, London ECY 8DA. Please note the venue! Seats will be reserved for members of the Company and their guests.  Please be seated by 12:50 pm. The performance will begin at 1:05 pm.

Doors open at 12.30pm. Entrance to the concert is free but cash donations to benefit the church or City Music Society are welcome at the end of the concert.
The Livery Club lunch following the concert will be at Côte St Paul’s, 26 Ludgate Hill, London EC4M 7DR, fifteen minutes’ walk from the concert venue via Wood Street, Foster Lane and Paternoster Square.
