John the Livery Club for a private screening of Topowa!, a multi-award-winning documentary which portrays the inspirational journey of twelve young musicians from Brass for Africa. Many grew up as street children in some of Uganda’s toughest slums. The film follows them from their home in Kampala to some of the world’s biggest music stages, where they perform with jazz legend Wynton Marsalis and virtuoso trumpeter Alison Balsom OBE. Alun Hughes, Master of the Musicians’ Company, and Jim Trott MBE, founder of Brass for Africa, host a private screening of this beautiful and uplifting feature length documentary followed by a question and answer session with some of the film’s main protagonists.
The screening begins at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £15 and you may bring a guest. There is a bar available before and after the screening.
