The Laura Jurd Quartet
With four startlingly original CDs already to her credit, Laura Jurd has made a remarkable impact on the UK jazz scene. In 2015 Laura received the Parliamentary Jazz Award for ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ and in the past has been shortlisted for a BASCA British Composer Award and received The Musicians’ Company’s Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition and their Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award. Of one of her live gigs, John Fordham in The Guardian noted that Laura ‘stretched critics and musicians’ repertoire of superlatives with this sophisticated and technically awesome session – on memorable originals with folk and contemporary-classical connections, delivered with the assurance of a budding trumpet-improvising original.’ With four startlingly original CDs already to her credit, Laura Jurd has made a remarkable impact on the UK jazz scene.
