Iconic Photographer Clive Barda: 2016 Honorary Fellow of The Musicians’ Company
Clive Barda OBE has been announced as the recipient of the prestigious 2016 Honorary Fellowship of The Musicians’ Company.
One of the world’s most revered photographers of musicians, conductors and singers, Barda’s iconic images have for over five decades provided us with some of the most treasured reminders of countless world-class artists, often capturing career highlights on the world’s greatest stages and opera houses.
On the evening of Monday 18th July The Musicians’ Company held a special event to celebrate Clive Barda’s Honorary Fellowship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Clive was joined by a panel of colleagues and friends to showcase and discuss his work, approach and techniques and the event also included a 10-minute film chosen by Philippe Monnet drawn from his documentary Clive Barda. Clive shared his approach and underlying philosophy with the audience, who also heard from the panel of their experience working together with Barda. The panel included:
- Graeme Kay, BBC Radio 3 as a moderator
- Steven Isserlis, Cellist
- Colin Ford CBE, Founding Head of National Museum of Photography, Film and Television
- Philippe Monnet, French Film Maker
There was an opportunity for those attending to submit their own questions to Clive. The photographer answered with humorous anecdotes and stories of encounters with a cornucopia of legendary artists across the world’s greatest stages.
The audience were invited from across the music and arts world and the evening was truly a celebration of this most distinguished of photographers.
