Biography

Christopher Lo is an award-winning saxophonist from Hong Kong. He holds a BMus (Performance) with first-class honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), where he studied with Josef Pacewicz and Andrew Somerville. He has also benefited from masterclasses with Timothy McAllister, Valentine Michaud, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Arno Bornkamp, and Graham Fitkin. He is now pursuing a Master of Arts in Saxophone Performance, also at RCS.  

Christopher is the winner of the 2026 RCS Governor’s Recital Prize for Woodwind and was a finalist in the RCS Concerto Competition for two consecutive years. He was also awarded Second Prize at the Mrs Sunderland Festival Young Musician of the Year competition. In recognition of his artistic potential, he is a Musicians’ Company Young Artist (Musicians’ Company Wind Award), and the recipient of major awards from Help  

Musicians (Ian Fleming Instrumentalist Award) and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust (Postgraduate Award). Prior to his undergraduate studies, Christopher achieved significant success in youth competitions across Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan.  

A passionate soloist, Christopher’s recent concerto performances include the Paul Creston Concerto with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera; André Waignein’s Rhapsody with the RCS Wind Orchestra at Stevenson’s Hall and Perth Concert Hall, including a performance in the final of the Edinburgh Festival Concerto Competition; and Claude T. Smith’s Fantasia with the Edinburgh Concert Band.  

He represented the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra (HKYO) performing in front of government officials at the 27th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. He has also gained extensive orchestral experience, performing with the HKYO on its 2024 China, Macau and Hong Kong Tour in Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. He also participated in the Scottish Opera Side-by-Side Project, performing in Puccini’s Turandot alongside members of the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. He also served as principal saxophonist for the Edinburgh 900 anniversary concert, alongside members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.  

As one half of the Aloysius Duo, Christopher is an artist with Live Music Now Scotland, delivering outreach concerts throughout Scotland, and has led workshops for The City of Edinburgh Council in schools across Edinburgh. He also supports and mentors younger musicians through his work with the RCS Junior Conservatoire ensembles. He has also premiered new works by Andrew Jacob and Reese Manglicmot.
