All Saints Brass is an exciting Manchester based quintet formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2016. The group fuses an eclectic range of styles, and benefits from coaching with a wide range of musicians, including Zoltan Kiss, Reinhold Friedrich, James Gourlay, Thomas Ruedi, Dave Thornton, Oren Marshall, and Rob Buckland. Despite the young age of the group, they demonstrate experience and maturity far beyond their years.

Since gaining a highly sought-after place on the RNCM external engagements list, the group has had an increasingly busy schedule. Highlights so far include performing two spotlights at the Whitworth Art Gallery, a recital at the Buxton Opera House, and opening the RNCM Brass Band Festival. They are also the first brass ensemble to play as part of the Manchester Concerts Chamber Society, recently having performed at the Charlotte Norton Concert. Following winning the very competitive audition for the Musicians’ Company Concert Series, All Saints have been selected to take part in their 2021 concert series at Wigmore Hall.

The group has also branched out into competitions, their first success coming in 2018 at the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble competition for the most outstanding brass group at the RNCM. All Saints were awarded a place in the biennial St John Smith Square Brass Spectacular, comprising the top brass ensembles from the eight major UK music colleges. This summer, the group competed in the International Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition and managed to secure a place in the semi-final as the youngest British group left in the competition, ultimately coming in fifth place.

Outside the quintet, members of the group have begun to freelance with professional orchestras and ensembles around the North West and abroad, including The Hallé, Opera North, Manchester Camerata, Dutch National Opera, the Bruckner Linz Orchestra, and Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.

We believe the quintet’s success is mostly down to the chemistry between the players. As well as being colleagues at the RNCM, the members’ friendship encompasses a wide range of activities outside playing. This not only creates a fantastic working environment but is also evident in their performances. The ensemble’s ambition is to explore and share the broadest range of musical repertoire with as wide an audience as possible, building on the work of many fantastic brass groups and bringing brass chamber music to the forefront of the musical world.

All Saints has just won the RNCM Entrepreneurship Award with the project ‘Pirchner Uncovered’, exploring Werner Pirchner’s music through a composition competition, recording and multi-genre performance. Follow us on social media to keep up to date with our project and future concerts.
