Biography

Described as an “outstanding pianist” by critics at Silent London, Andra Bacila is a Romanian classical pianist who graduated with First Class Honours from the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Professor Joanna MacGregor CBE on a full scholarship. During her studies, she was awarded both the Hargreaves and Ball Award and the Academy’s Bicentenary Prize for Exemplary Studentship. She is currently continuing her studies at the Academy on the Master of Arts (Performance) course as a Postgraduate Award holder with Help Musicians, a recipient of the Musicians’ Company Carnwath Piano Scholarship, and a member of the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ Young Artists’ Programme.

She has appeared at leading venues including the Romanian Athenaeum, the Liszt Institute in Paris, St James’s Church Piccadilly, Regent Hall, and the Romanian Cultural Institute in London. Career highlights include performing for the Duke of Kent at Holy Sepulchre, an invitation from the Czech Philharmonic to perform at the Czech Embassy in the presence of conductor Semyon Bychkov, joining the prestigious Talent Unlimited Foundation in 2024, and performing with the Erba Piano Festival String Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Geoffrey Simon at the Erba Piano Festival in Italy.

Alongside her solo career, Andra is an accomplished silent film improviser and has been invited to perform at internationally renowned festivals including Le Giornate del Cinema Muto (Pordenone), the Netherlands Silent Film Festival (Eindhoven), and the Kennington Bioscope in London, creating and performing live improvised scores for feature-length silent films.
