Biography
Bethan Langford is a recent graduate of the Opera Course at the Guildhall School and is a 2017/18 Young Artist at the National Opera Studio. Whilst studying she was awarded the Susan Longfield prize, Violette Szabo award and the Paul Hamburger lieder prize. She is a Samling Artist, a Concordia Artist, a Les Azuriales Young Artist and an alumna of the Verbier Festival Academy. She is the current recipient of the Goldman Award from the Musicians’ Company and a Tutton Award from Help Musicians.
Bethans enjoys a varied early career on both the opera and recital stages. Recent and future performance highlights include Dorabella Cosi fan tutte (Bury Court Opera), Angel 2/Marie Written on Skin (Melos Sinfonia, UK tour and Russian premier at the Mariinsky Theatre), a recital at the Wigmore Hall as part of their Afternoon series, Lehrbuben Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Noble Orphan Der Rosenkavalier (Glyndebourne Festival Opera and BBC Proms), Dritte magt Elektra (Verbier Festival under Esa-Pekka Salonen), numerous appearances at the Oxford Lieder Festival, Messiah with Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, cover Proserpina Orfeo (Royal Opera) and recitals for Heidelberger Frühling Festival, International Lieder Festival Zeist, Aldeburgh Festival and the Ludlow English Song Weekend. Bethan is a co-founder of Schubert & Co, a vocal ensemble dedicated to the promotion and performance of part song and lieder.
Bethan looks forward to being an Emerging Artist for Scottish Opera in the 2018/19 season.
