Biography
Praised for his “lean, polished tenor” by Opera Magazine, British-Irish tenor Jay Broadhurst is rapidly beginning to make his mark on the UK opera scene. Under the guidance of Mark Wildman at the Royal Northern College of Music, he is a recent recipient of the prestigious Frederic Cox Award for Singing and the Sir David Maddison Opera Prize.
Recent and upcoming engagements include: Nemorino L’elisir d’amore (Dorset Opera Festival, Waterperry Opera Festival*), Macduff Macbeth (Chelsea Opera Group), Lensky Eugene Onegin(RNCM Opera, Preston Opera) Alfredo La traviata, Le Prince L’amour des trois oranges (RNCM Opera), Turiddu Cavalleria Rusticana (Dorset Opera Festival*), Borsa Rigoletto, Un Chef Le roi de Lahore (Dorset Opera Festival), Don Curzio Le nozze di Figaro (Garsington Opera), Stephen in the world premiere of Bicarregui’s Capsule, Tsar Berendeyi The Snow Maiden, King Ouf L’étoile (RNCM Opera), and Preacher Bernstein’s Mass (RNCM).
This season, Jay made acclaimed debuts at both Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall with performances of Schumann’s Dichterliebe, earning praise for his “lyrical subtlety”.
Jay is a former Garsington Opera Alvarez Young Artist and is proud to be generously supported by Musician’s Company as Salaman Seelig Award Winner and the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation for his current year of study. Away from the stage, he is a loyal supporter of Manchester United.
