Biography

Maria was born in Purchena, Spain, in 1991. She started playing in her local wind band when she was eight. Until the age of nineteen she studied at Baza, Granada, with Professor Marina Lemberg, and continued her studies at the Catalonian School of Music with Julia Gallego, and at The Rafael Orozco Music Academy in Cordoba with Pablo Estivariz. There, she learnt with flautist Marc Hantai (Transverse flute), conductor Lutz Kohler, collaborated with Barcelona’s Symphonic Wind Band and the Cordoba Orchestra. Thanks to an Erasmus Scholarship, she has studied at The Karol Lipinski Music Academy of Wroclaw in Poland with flautist Elzbieta Wolenska.

Maria is a member of the Youth Orchestra of Southern Spain and the Orchestra Academy of Barenboim- Said Foundation in Seville. In 2016 she founded the Burxana Ensemble, which specialises in historical Moorish and Andalusian music.

Maria is currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra.
