Biography

Rhiannon Morgan is a 26-year-old Scottish/Irish Soprano, from Aberdeen, Scotland. She is a recent graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), where she achieved a First Class Honours degree in Bachelor of Music Performance and subsequently attained a Distinction in her Masters of Music. She is continuing her studies at RWCMD on the M.A. Opera Performance course under the tutelage of Suzanne Murphy and James Southall. Rhiannon’s studies are very generously supported by the Caledonian Society Scholarship, the Neil and Mary Webber Award, the Janet Price Prize and a Musician’s Company Award.

 

During her studies at RWCMD, Rhiannon has performed roles such as Vittoria in The Gondoliers, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas and Bridesmaid in The Marriage of Figaro, alongside the role of Pleasure in a staged Oratorio production of Handels’ The Choice of Hercules. Most notably, Rhiannon played Blanche de la Force in RWCMD’s 2023 spring opera production of Dialogues of the Carmelites, at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff. In addition, she has performed Opera excerpts at RWCMD that include Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen; Arminda in La finta giardiniera; Countess in The Marriage of Figaro; The Fairy Queen in The Fairy Queen; Frasquita in Carmen and Manon in Manon (Massenet). Recently, she performed Vixen’s aria, Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Suzanna, The Marriage of Figaro with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra under the baton of James Southall as part of RWCMD’s annual Opera Gala. Rhiannon is looking forward to performing the role of Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, conducted by maestro Carlo Rizzi, in March 2024.

 

Rhiannon is a keen German lied and French mélodie singer and has performed in masterclasses with BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Finalist, Ilker Arcayürek, as well as 2007 winner, Shenyang. She has also performed alongside BBC Cardiff Singer of the World’s official accompanist Simon Lepper.

 

Rhiannon is very much looking forward to her second and final year on the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.
