Biography

Cellist Samuel Ng currently studies with Raphael Wallfisch and Hélène Dautry at the Royal College of Music as an RCM Scholar supported by a Musicians’ Company Lambert Studentship and is the recipient of the Raphael Sommer Music Scholarship Trust Award. From a young age, Samuel has won numerous prizes at competitions and festivals which has led him to have performed in halls including the Royal Albert Hall, Kings Place, St John’s Smith Square, Cadogan Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields, as well as engagements in Asia. Highlights include his concerto debut playing Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante and an appearance at the Vienna Musikverein in January for the Vienna Philharmonic Ball. Samuel has also participated in masterclasses with Guy Johnston, Natalie Clein, Tomasz Daroch, Jacob Shaw and Maddalena Del Gobbo.

Future highlights include Brahms Double Concerto with the Cavatina Orchestra and a tour of concerts and radio broadcasts in Vienna, Munich, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia this summer. Regularly collaborating, Samuel has been mentored by members of the Allegri Quartet, Bochmann Quartet, London Haydn Quartet and Doric Quartet and has won numerous competitions with his chamber groups. Alongside Coco Inman (violin) and Fionnuala Ward (piano), Samuel is a founding member of the Parry Trio at the RCM, and have been selected as part of the RCM Gateway with exciting recitals being planned for the following season.

Having been principal cello of numerous orchestras, Samuel has worked with notable conductors such as Edward Gardner and Gergely Madaras. Highlights have included Mahler’s 1st Symphony, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and rehearsing with members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
