Biography

Born in 2003, South Korean classical pianist Sejin Yoon is known for her delicacy, sensitivity, and virtuosity. She began her studies in the UK at age twelve, an experience that shaped her musical approach and passion for both education and performance.

She recently graduated with First-Class Honours from the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Ian Fountain with full ABRSM scholarship support. From September 2025, she continues at the Academy for her Master’s, supported by further scholarships and awards from Help Musicians, Countess of Munster Musical Trust, and The Musicians’ Company. She won first prize in the Sterndale Bennett Prize and received the Historical Women Composers Prize. Highlights include a solo recital and masterclasses at the Cayman Arts Festival, joining The Glenn Gould School through The Sir Elton John Global Exchange Programme, and performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 at Sommerakademie Cervo. She has taken masterclasses with pianists including Vovka Ashkenazy and Steven Osborne.

A founding member of the Lisson Trio, Sejin represented the Academy at Wigmore Hall in the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition. She has worked with musicians such as Adrian Brendel and will collaborate with cellist Daniel Schultz for the Tillett Trust Debut Scheme.

At nine, Sejin was the youngest pianist to perform in the Kumho Prodigy Concert Series. She later performed Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No.2 with the Gwacheon Symphony and Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G with the Wuhan Philharmonic. She won major national competitions in Korea and gave early performances of Tchaikovsky’s Four Seasons and Liszt’s Paganini Etudes.

She studied at Wells Cathedral School on full scholarship with John Byrne, reaching the finals of BBC Young Musician 2020 and performing widely. She remains connected to Wells, recently appearing in the Old Wellensian Recital Series.
