Biography
Svetlina is a Bulgarian mezzo-soprano, in her final year at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under Clare Shearer. From next season Svetlina will be part of the ensemble of soloists in the Vienna Staatsoper. She is also a Samling Artist. First Prize winner of the 2017 Neue Stimmen competition, she has also won many other prizes including Ye Cronies Opera Award and Le Grand Prix de l’Opera, from which she spent a week recording with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio.
Her operatic roles include Cherubino, Le nozze di Figaro (Opera de Nice; Anthea Theatre); Nerone, Agrippina (New Athenaeum Theatre, Glasgow); Veronique, Le docteur Miracle (Fox Opera); Mother, Mavra (Alexander Gibson Opera Studio). She has also performed in part Octavian, Der Rosenkavalier; Man Friday, Robinson Crusoe; Rosina, Il barbiere di Siviglia; Dorabella, Cosi fan tutte; Annio, La clemenza di Tito; Lucretia, Lucretia; Frau Reich, Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor; Juno, Semele and others. Svetlina was invited to perform Rosina, Il barbiere di Siviglia in the Bregenz Festival in the summer of 2018.
Also a prolific concert singer and recitalist, Svetlina has performed in recitals sponsored by the organisation Live Music Now. Recently she performed Angel in Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius with the orchestra of Scottish Opera in Glasgow City Halls. In June 2017 she had a recital as part of the international festival Sofia Music Weeks and in June 2018 she will perform Mahler’s Symphony No.4 with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra as their Final concert of the season in “Bulgaria” Hall.
Svetlina sang in the Children’s Choir of the Bulgarian National radio with the foremost musical academic in Bulgaria Hristo Nedyalkov for 9 years. As the main soloist of the choir she embarked on concert tours around many European and Asian countries. She has sung for the Japanese Crown Prince, the President of Bulgaria, the Swiss Countess Esther de Pommery and many other influential people.
Svetlina is a recipient of the Musician’s Company Award Silver Medal, Independent Opera Scholarship & Fellowship, the Help Musicians UK Sybil Tutton Award, RCS Trust scholarship and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Star Award.
