Biography
Guylaine Eckersley is Section Leader Bassoon with the Ulster Orchestra and an active chamber musician, who is fast creating a reputation for being one of the most exciting bassoonists of her generation. As well as her role with the Ulster Orchestra, Guylaine regularly performs with orchestras around the country such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Philharmonia, Sinfonia of London and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Whilst Guylaine has a deep passion for orchestral playing, she also loves exploring chamber music and curating interesting and diverse programmes which can capture an audience’s imagination. She has played and worked with several international chamber music ensembles, such as the Wigmore Soloists, London Winds and Ensemble 360. Guylaine is also a member of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, who made their BBC Proms debut in 2023. In direct contrast to her classical chamber music work, Guylaine has also performed with the rock band ‘The Good, the Bad and the Queen’ on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’.
Guylaine has won several prestigious awards including a Philharmonia MMSF Woodwind Fellowship, a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musician’s and both the Vivian Dunn prize for orchestral playing and a Regency Award from the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Amy Harman, Jonathan Davies, Robin O’Neill and John Orford.
