Eunsley Park (violin): The Musicians’ Company #MiddayMusic

Eunsley Park joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after being awarded our #RoyalCollegeofMusic Lambert Fellowship in 2016. Here she performs Wagner's 'Albumblatt' arranged for violin and piano by August Wilhelmj, and Ysaye's 'Preludio' from Sonata no. 2 for solo violin ('Obsession'). Eunsley is accompanied by Peggy Wu on piano. Eunsley says: "Most people know Richard Wagner as an opera composer, so as a violinist I was so happy to discover this piece 'Albumblatt' or 'Romanze' (originally for solo piano, but arranged for violin/piano by August Wilhelmj) during the depths of lockdown. It is such a beautiful, not-often-heard piece and its expressive and melodic nature really touched me during my walks in the park. I listened to this piece over and over again and as soon as I was able to play with another musician (here joined by my friend Peggy Wu), I knew this would be the first thing I wanted to play! The second piece is the first movement 'Preludio' from Eugene Ysaye's Sonata no. 2 for solo violin ('Obsession'). Ysaye inserts quotations from Bach's Partita no. 3 alongside the eerie Dies Irae motto, while stamping his own violinistic and distinctive style. Since I was unable to make music with other people during the last few months, I played a lot of solo violin repertoire, and set myself the project of learning this piece. In spite of the drastic and significant damage this pandemic has had for the concert schedule of so many musicians, music itself remains, and I hope music can continue to provide comfort and inspiration to you during these strange and surreal times. I am grateful for this opportunity to share my music with you online through the Musicians Company, and hope that I will be able to see you in live performances again soon. Until then, keep well and healthy!" Eunsley is a South Korean/British violinist based in London. She studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School, University of Performing Arts Vienna, and the #RoyalCollegeofMusic where she graduated with top marks and held the position of Constant and Kit Lambert Junior Fellow. Eunsley has a versatile career performing in prestigious venues across the UK and internationally as soloist, chamber musician and as a member of the first violin section of the Philharmonia Orchestra. She plays a 1800 Lorenzo Storioni violin, generously loaned by a patron of the Beare's International Violin Society. -------------------------------------------------- Musicians' Company Profile - http://www.wcom.org.uk/yeoman/eunsley-park Musicians' Company Interview (2017) - http://www.wcom.org.uk/news/yeoman-interview-eunsley-park About our Lambert Fellowship - http://www.wcomarchive.org.uk/--constant-kit-lambert Eunsley's Website - http://www.eunsleypark.com Eunsley's Instagram - http://www.instagram.com/eunsleyviolin Eunsley's YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU0-YL5UBrN007DFbg9IjvA -------------------------------------------------- Join our weekly #MiddayMusic e-news at http://eepurl.com/dv0ccr #MiddayMusic is supported by funds from the Musicians' Company’s Prince’s Prize which received a generous endowment in 2015 from The Eranda Rothschild Foundation and Rothschilds Bank, in memory of Leopold de Rothschild, a Liveryman of the Musicians’ Company for over 50 years.
