Joshua Lascar (guitar): The Musicians’ Company Young Artists’ Programme #MusicShots

Joshua Lascar (guitar) joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after winning our Silver Medal at the Royal Welsh College of Music in 2021. Here he performs a programme of his own compositions, with Michael Blanchfield (piano). They are:

Joshua Lascar (b 1998): Shower Trickles; On the Sixth Day; All That I Love Brings Me Joy, Remember?

Joshua says:

"The three pieces performed today are all compositions of mine, from recent years. I selected them for this performance as they can be nicely re-interpreted for a guitar and piano duo. Likewise, they are pieces of music I simply enjoy playing, improvising and thus wanted to share through Music Shots. Shower Trickles is a composition that has had many forms. As it is a melody I’m fond of, I have developed it for various settings, from Jazz duo to quintet to big band. On The Sixth Day was written during the first lockdown of the pandemic, on the sixth day of it. The piece is inspired by the feelings experienced when going between your independent life and your home life. In this piece, there’s also a glimpse of a sound world I regularly work in: electronics. Here I use a digital modular synthesizer software called VCV Rack. Finally, All That I Love Brings Me Joy, Remember? is a piece that I developed in 2021, during workshops with Gilad Hekselman. It was composed as a contrafact, by re-structruing and re-harmonising the Jazz standard Everything I Love and then writing a melody to this renewed basis."
