Sabīne Sergejeva (violin): The Musicians’ Company Young Artists’ Programme #MusicShots
Sabīne Sergejeva (violin) joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after winning our Musicians’ Company Silver Medal at the #GuildhallSchoolOfMusicAndDrama in 2021. Here she performs with Anton Lyakhovsky (piano) the following programme:
Elgar: Violin Sonata in E minor, Op 82; II, Romance: Andante and III, Allegro non troppo
Sabīne says: "I have always been drawn to E. Elgar’s music due to its incredible lyricism and warmth. Born in a village near Worcester, his father owned a music shop and his mother was interested in arts. While mostly being a self taught composer, Elgar was influenced by his contemporaries such as J. Brahms and F. Schubert. The Violin sonata was composed in 1918 in the shadow of the World War One, the second movement in particular reflects the darkness of this time. Being his last work written for violin, it has become almost neglected due to the significance of his Violin concerto. This being the main reason why I have chosen to perform this piece on this occasion, as there are only around 20 recordings known of the E. Elgar Violin sonata. I hope that by introducing this piece in my repertoire I can encourage the recognition of this work. E. Elgar is celebrating his 165th anniversary this year."
