Sahra Gure (jazz singer): The Musicians’ Company #MiddayMusic

Sahra Gure joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after she won our Young Jazz Musician award in 2019. Here she performs 'Blame it on my youth', 'I didn’t know what time it was' and 'I Wish You Love'. Sahra writes: "For my Midday Music concert I wanted to pick repertoire that would bring people joy. In this current climate I think it’s important to take a moment to breathe and share a smile. I chose three songs that I love to sing (and that I can play on the piano!) and hope that they bring you some form of joy. Not being able to perform as normal has put many of us out of our comfort zones and this being one of the first times I am performing alone and playing the piano I certainly feel as though I am using this time to grow." Winner of the Musicians’ Company Young Jazz Musician Award 2019, Sahra is already pipped by Jazzwise as ‘one to watch in 2020’ Sahra’s EP has received support from Bandcamp Daily, BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, Worldwide FM, Rinse FM, Jazz FM, Radio Nova & TSF Jazz. Sahra’s versatile approach to singing has seen her work with the likes of Orphy Robinson, Dele Sosimi, Cleveland Watkiss MBE, Ashley Henry, Tori Handsley, Mark Mondesir and Kishon Khan to name a few. Performing London Jazz Festival, Havana Jazz Festival, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Jazz Cafe, Dimensions Festival, WOMAD Festival and many more.
