Young Jazz Musician Awards 2023
Musicians’ Company Jazz Tina May Young Jazz Musician of the Year Competition 2023 - Sunday 17th September 2023
This is an outstanding showcase for the best of the current young British based jazz musicians, one of whom was awarded the Musicians’ Company Young Jazz Musician Award, in memory of the acclaimed first winner of the competition, Tina May and chosen by the voting audience present at the gig.
From over 50 nominations, from many of the UK’s leading jazz musicians, the Company’s Jazz Committee selected six of the most outstanding young artists.
The Finalists in this year’s competition are: Emile Hinton piano, Matthew Holmes drums, Dan Lockheart saxophone, James Wade-Sired trombone, Chris Adsett saxophone, Menelik Claffey double bass.
The winner was Emile Hinton. He received the Company’s coveted medal, a £1,000 prize and the opportunity for the band of his choice to perform as part of the Company’s jazz programme.
