Danielle Kamilah Williams

Biography

Soprano Danielle Kamilah fell in love with opera in the birthplace of Steelpan & Calypso, Trinidad & Tobago. After completing her B.Sc. in Biochemistry & Nutritional Sciences, she worked in Public Health Research, Biomedical Sales & Marketing; while performing in operas & televised galas. With a voice described as ‘rich & sumptuous with an expansive range’, Danielle has performed the roles of Cosette (Les Misèrables) & Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus). After completing her Artist Diploma at The University of Trinidad & Tobago, Danielle trained at the Kapellsberg Opera Studio in Sweden.

Now based in Manchester, Danielle Kamilah Williams completed her Masters in Performance with Distinction at the Royal Northern College of Music with Michael Harper & Hilary Summers. And continues Postgraduate Diploma studies with Michael Harper. She completed 4 residencies at Opera North supported by the Leverhulme Trust and has participated in masterclasses with Anthony Hermus, Dr. Louise Toppin and Elizabeth Llewellyn.

Danielle made her UK recital debut at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester as part of the Streetwise Opera Re:Discover festival in June 2024. Her European recital debut was in September 2024 in Stuttgart with the Internationale Hugo-Wolf-Akademie. She has also performed in France, Italy, & Sweden. She is passionate about exploring the intersection between health science & music. Determined to see the Caribbean ethos, instruments, & stories reflected more in art music, she arranges for Steelband & philharmonic orchestra & composes.

Danielle is grateful to the José and Rafton Smallwood Award, the Lady Maria Fisher Opera Scholarship, and an anonymous donor for supporting her master’s studies. Along with Ann Gerrard Bursary and an anonymous donor, who support her Postgraduate Diploma studies. Danielle was previously awarded the Neil Latchman Bursary.

Danielle Kamilah was awarded the Musicians’ Company Silver Award in October 2024 and is honoured to be a Young Artist mentee.
