Biography
Elijah Jeffery is a jazz singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Cardiff, where he graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with a first class honours in Jazz Voice. During his time at RWCMD, Elijah became a recognisable face at the college, hosting the popular weekly Jazz club, ‘AmserJazzTime’, and regularly appearing as a performer with his own bands. For his contribution to the work of the college in the wider community, he was the 2023 recipient of the Principal’s Award for Music. Highlights from his time at RWCMD also include performing as an actor-musician and musical director for the Richard Burton Theatre Company’s Autumn 2021 production of ‘One Man Two Guvnors’, and leading the RWCMD Big Band as the feature vocalist in a sell-out show in the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall, celebrating the music of Frank Sinatra and Count Basie.
Since completing his studies, Elijah has established himself as an up-and-coming artist in jazz throughout Wales and the South West. He performs regularly both as a vocalist and instrumentalist with a range of small and large ensembles in venues across the country, and has collaborated with the likes of Claire Martin OBE, Alex Garnett, Ian Shaw and Capital City Jazz Orchestra. In the community, Elijah has worked with a range of charities as a music therapist, and was commissioned by Cardiff-based charity TouchTrust in 2022 to compose and improvise new music to accompany movement sessions for children and young adults with a variety of multi-sensory needs.
Elijah released his debut EP as an original artist in June 2023. Entitled ‘One of Her Clowns’, the EP blends Elijah’s love of jazz with soul, singer-songwriter and folk sensibilities, weaving tales of love lost and found through “poetic and intelligent lyricism” (The Jazz Mann 2024).
