Biography
Emma Brown is a passionate flautist, teacher and disability activist. She is currently studying flute and piccolo at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on the Master of Music course. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2021 with a first class undergraduate degree with honours in Music. She is in her final year of her Masters where she studies with Marie-Christine Zupancic, Helen Benson and Andrew Lane. Emma has enjoyed a successful first year of her Masters during which she was awarded the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire 2023 Silver Medal from the Musician’s Company. She also won the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Woodwind Prize as a soloist and the Diane Ambache Prize for the Performance of Music by Women Composers with the Minerva Flute Quartet. She frequently performs with the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra and Guildford Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is also an experienced teacher and has recently become a Kodaly Scholar as part of a new training programme between Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Sing Education and the Richard Shephard Foundation.
Emma is passionate about disability activism in music which she explores through her role as a trustee for the OHMI Trust. This charity provides adapted instruments for people with physical disabilities. She has taught at various music making days with the OHMI Trust and raises awareness through public speaking.
