Key Facts

Biography

Rebecka is a London-based Swedish singer, lyricist and composer with a soft spot for the ocean, anecdotes and rusty orange. Her music is a concoction of jazz and Scandinavian folk music, whale song, bird whistles and other beautiful, peculiar sounds. Rebecka explores freely improvised storytelling, contemporary songwriting, and composing for unconventional lineups. She finds inspiration in long forest walks and ridiculously cold swims.

In 2023, Rebecka received the Director’s Prize for Excellence and graduated as a Gold Medal Finalist with First Class Honours from Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where she studied a BMus in Jazz. Prior to that, she studied a combined degree in Composition and Scandinavian Folk Music, specialising in traditional singing and herding calls at the Music Conservatoire in Falun (Sweden).

In 2022, Rebecka released her debut album ’Något om en björk’ (’Something about a birch tree’) with her quartet Oknytt, under her record label Rebecka Aurora. The album is a collection of little stories about the big world and our nature. The album was nominated by Lira Music Magazine as  one of the best folk jazz albums of the year. Rebecka has performed her music at London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, King’s Place, Green Note and many more renowned venues around Europe, together with brilliant musicians such as Rob Luft, Elliot Galvin, Laura Jurd and Corrie Dick. Rebecka is currently curating The Whirlpool Series at the Vortex Jazz Club and is looking forward to her upcoming musical escapades.
