Emma Arizza (violin): The Musicians’ Company #MiddayMusic

Emma Arizza joined the Musicians' Company Young Artists' Programme after winning a Musicians' Company award in 2019. Here she performs Ysaÿe's Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 27, No. 2 'Jacques Thibaud' - 1 Obsession (Prelude), Sarabande from Bach’s Partita n.1 in B minor and M. Ponce's 'Estrellita' (transcribed by Jascha Heifetz). Emma says: "I was born in Como, but currently based in London. I have recently graduated from the #RoyalCollegeofMusic with distinction and currently studying with Mayumi Fujikawa at #TrinityLaban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, supported by the Gladys Bratton scholarship. Performances have taken me across the world, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Israel and the UK. I was selected as artist in residence for the Fondazione La Società dei Concerti di Milano (season 2018/2019). I play a precious old Italian violin by Francesco Guadagnini (1927). E. Ysaÿe's Prelude is a favourite piece of mine and I have a beautiful memory playing it for my audition for the Musician’s Company! It will remind you of Bach in the very beginning, just prepare to be surprised and amazed as you go on listening! I believe during these difficult times, there is nothing better than practicing and playing the pieces one truly loves. After the first few weeks, I found myself wanting to practice J.S. Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin. I started without too much hard judgment on myself, trying to really enjoy the music and what the instrument could give me in terms of feelings, energy and uplifting emotions. I followed my instincts and kept practicing ... .so here is the beautiful Sarabande from Bach’s Partita n.1 in B minor. The last piece is by M. Ponce, “Estrellita”, a really beautiful Mexican song transcribed for violin and piano by Jascha Heifetz. At the piano, my lovely boyfriend. Enjoy!" -------------------------------------------------- Musicians' Company Profile - http://www.wcom.org.uk/yeoman/emma-arizza Musicians' Company interview (2020) - http://www.wcom.org.uk/news/violinist-emma-arizza-on-her-roots-repertoire-and-musical-relationships About our Musicians' Company Award - http://www.wcomarchive.org.uk/--allcard-funds Emma's Website - http://www.emmaarizzaviolinist.com Emma's Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/EmmaArizzaViolin Emma's Instagram - http://www.instagram.com/emmaarizzaviolinist Emma's YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/user/TheEmmaviolin -------------------------------------------------- Join our weekly #MiddayMusic e-news at http://eepurl.com/dv0ccr #MiddayMusic is supported by funds from the Musicians' Company’s Prince’s Prize which received a generous endowment in 2015 from The Eranda Rothschild Foundation and Rothschilds Bank, in memory of Leopold de Rothschild, a Liveryman of the Musicians’ Company for over 50 years.
