Music Direction in Musical Theatre Award

The Musicians’ Company Musical Direction Scholarship is open to student musical directors pursuing an advanced course of study (PGDip/MA/MMus etc) in Musical Directing within the UK, with nominations made by the relevant Conservatoire department heads.

Unique in the industry, this is the first UK award that recognises and rewards young musical directors in training.  The audition requirements are rigorous, testing a variety of skills, and assessed by a rotating panel of seasoned industry MDs. The whole process is discursive, allowing an applicant to demonstrate a unique portfolio of skills, including performance, vocal coaching, conducting, sight-reading, extemporisation, acting on feedback, viva voce, and so on.  A composition/arrangement portfolio is also assessed.

Successful applicants receive a generous financial reward, and free professional mentoring and support going forward.
